Journey Into Imagination
Journey into Imagination was a popular attraction of the Epcot theme park at Disney's World Resort back in 1983. The ride showcased the work of the Dreamfinder, an old man who could collect dreams/ideas and create new things. He was joined by a purple dragon named Figment that he created using a figment of his imagination. The primary part of the ride was the Dreamport's various Realms of Imagination which centered around Art, Literature, Performing Arts, and Science. Each section exemplified limitless possibilities of its related theme via a scene with the duo like Art being represented by Dreamfinder painting on a blank canvas while Figment held a pot of rainbows. The attraction was closed on October 10, 1998, and would later be replaced with the similarly named Journey Into Your Imagination in 1999. The new ride received overwhelmingly negative reviews from guests with many of them citing Figment's new minor role and the loss of Dreamfinder as the downfall of the ride. In 2003, it was once again replaced with Journey Into Imagination With Figment which is still the current version of the attraction.
While the ride mostly used animatronics throughout, there were parts where short films of traditional animation were displayed for visitors. During the Science section, there was a short of Figment getting inflated by a balloon he was trying to inflate. This animation was also shown at the Mirage Exhibit at ImageWorks in 1991 and has since been archived online by fans.
