Hercules: The Animated Series is an animated television spin-off that premiered on August 31, 1998. It is based on the 1997 film by Disney and Greek myths that preceded it. The syndicated series premiered on Disney's One Saturday Morning on September 12, 1998 and ran for a total of 52 episodes. Four episodes were compiled into the direct-to-video movie Hercules: Zero to Hero.
The events of the series take place midway through the animated film. A teenage Hercules attends Prometheus Academy and is trained by his satyr teacher, Phil. Hercules wishes to become a hero and fit in with other humans. Helping him on his journey are his clarivoyant friend Cassandra and his batty best friend, Icarus. The series is not canon since it contradicts the events of the film. Most notably, Hades knows teenage Hercules is alive.
