Monsters University is an American computer-animated feature film directed by Dan Scanlon and produced by Pixar Animation Studios that serves as the prequel to the 2001 film Monsters, Inc., put on general release in the United States on June 21, 2013. Though it did not reach the ciritical success of its predecessor, or most other Pixar films, it was a success financially. The film looks at the early days of protagonists Michael "Mike" Wazowski and James P. "Sulley" Sullivan and how they grew to know each other while in college.
The monsters take the Toxicity Challenge as the first event in the Scare Games, attempting to dodge as many Stinging Glow Urchins as possible. Representing human children, these can make body parts swell up gigantically, and Squishy's whole body swells up when one gets thrown into his mouth.
