Splatoon is a video game franchise created by Hisashi Nogami and developed by Nintendo. Debuting in 2015, its success allowed it to expand into comics and live concerts. The games are of the third-person shooter genre, taking place in a post-apocalyptic world populated by evolved marine life. Among these creatures are the Inklings, humanoid squids who can change between humanoid and cephalopod forms. They engage in a sport known as Turf Wars, in which two teams of four try to cover an area with their sides' ink, the winning side having covered the most. There are also other modes in the games, such as the story-driven single player campaign, but most are multiplayer.
In the single player mode, the Smallfry buddy can remove patches of Fuzzy Ooze by eating the Fuzzball if charged up with enough Power Eggs.
A manga adaptation was created by Sankichi Hinodeya and ran in CoroCoro Comic. It follows a team of four original Inkling characters, each known affectionately by an iconic piece of clothing that they each wear, who battle against several rival teams in Turf Wars.
