Strega Nona is a children's book published in 1975, made by Tomie dePaola and based on the German fairy tale Sweet Poridge (or The Magic Porridge Pot). It is followed by a number of titles, making it a book series. The story takes place in a town in the Italian region of Calabria. There lives an old woman known as Strega Nona, who uses her special remedies to help the townsfolk. When she leaves to visit a friend, her inattentive helper Big Anthony uses her magic pasta pot to cook pasta and show off to the people, as he saw how she makes it work. Unfortunately, he never saw how she makes it stop, which threatens to have the town flooded with pasta.
In the end, Strega Nona returns and stops the pasta from flowing, then makes Big Anthony eat it all as punishment.
