I noticed we seem to have some unknown guests who are popping up every minute and are making pages unrelated to this wiki. I normally leave it alone but every second there's a new member and that member is making pages that have nothing to do with The Big Cartoon Wiki. So I wonder if an admin or whatever could look into it and figure out what's going on with all these random people appearing and making junk pages.
I agree, there are a lot every day now posting a lot of pages in a foreign language that are all about nothing. Maybe the site needs a way to limit guest priveleges or ban people
AGreed this is a good idea if possible. More spam bots and pages are already up today but there are shady ads not gibberish. Captcha first and maybe email if it has to be too, it is too easy for spam bots to come on when there are no membership or login requirements
Pukupukudragon is probably the only one of us who can stop this for good, but I'm sure their working on it. All I can do is block spam bot accounts and delete the pages they make. I've gone into preemptive strikes, seeing how many of them show up. I am worried that some of them are real people, but that seems unlikely right now.
Im glad youre doing that but you shouldnt be alone in that. I dont think anyone you blocked is real they all had ads and links to skin products and things on their page.
Can anyone contact Pukupukudragon? Im sure he'll help but said hes not using his twitter anymore so you need a discord or furaffinity.
Hi, just checking in on how the wiki is going. IRL stuff has been keeping me pretty busy so I haven't been able to check in as much as I'd like.
I'm looking through the wiki activity and I'm mortified at the amount of spam here. If something is seriously wrong with the wiki then people are welcome to contact me anywhere so I can know. I will look into installing a Captcha system for registration ASAP so this problem can be solved.
EDIT:
For the time being I've installed a basic Captcha for newly-registered accounts. I've also taken the liberty of removing the hundreds of spam messages on the Recent Activity page. Thank you for your hard work keeping the spam at bay, Door73. I noticed a huge volume of blocked users and deleted pages you took care of.
If the spam continues then I will slowly ramp up the amount of protection on the wiki (at the cost of user-friendliness). I can run Captchas whenever pages are created, edited or URLs are added to them. I can also swap out the existing Captcha for a Q&A-based one.
