TH Strikes Back is the sequel to the arcade title Thunder Hoop. Long story short, Genbreak creates new creatures, gets fired, attacks society, and then his colleagues create Thunder Hoop to beat Genbreak.
The second game takes place ten years later with Genbreak's new Humanoid forces and an adult Thunder Hoop. For whatever reason, Thunder Hoop's powers now cause his enemies to expand before they explode. This is the most obvious with humanoid enemies as their death frames are longer, but a lot of other creatures do expand briefly before death.
