Painkiller is a first-person shooter game series introduced in 2004. It also has a few expansion packs as well as a remake/sequel in Painkiller: Hell & Damnation. When Daniel Garner and his wife die in a car crash, she goes to Heaven, but he ends up in Purgatory. Daniel is tasked with stopping Lucifer's forces from taking over Purgatory, which would lead to a war between Heaven and Hell. Only after that can he attain purification and reunite with his beloved.
One of the enemies is the Spider which gets larger if not defeated and eventually explodes.
