Hayate x Blade (read as Hayate Cross Blade) is a manga series created by Shizuru Hayashiya and ran roughly from 2003 to 2017. It takes place at Tenchi Academy, an all-girls school that teaches Sword Arts, in which students battle each other to better their combat skills. There is also a scholarship program where teams duel each other for money and bragging rights. Hayate Kurogane attends the school impersonating her twin sister Nagi, who is in rehabilitation. Even though Nagi is a scholarship student, Hayate is disinterested in the fights, but she decides to participate to pay the huge debt on their old orphanage. She allies herself with Ayana Mudou, another student who originally abandoned fighting.
