Hanayamata is a manga created by Sou Hamayumiba, running from 2011 to 2018. An anime adaptation aired in 2014. It centers on a middle school student named Naru Sekiya, who feels she is boring compared to her friends and wants to shine like the heroines in fairy tales she reads. One night, she sees what she assumes is a dancing fairy, but later learns that it is actually an American transfer student named Hana N. Fountainstand. Hana convinces Naru to join her in a club for yosakoi dancing, pushing Naru into a new interest.
