Gurren Lagann is an anime series directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi that aired from April to late September 2007, with two mangas serialized through June 2007 to July 2013 and two feature films released in September 2008 and April 2009. The series takes place in the future, where Simon and Kamina, two teenagers forced into living in an underground village in a world by the Earth's ruler Lordgenome, the Spiral King, escape to the surface using a mecha named Lagann and fight back against Lordgenome to free everyone else.
