Future Boy Conan is an anime TV series produced by Nippon Animation and directed by acclaimed Japanese animator and filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki. The original series series ran from April 1978 and concluded the following October with a total of 26 episodes. An animated film based on the series titled The Revival of the Giant Machine was released in March 1984, and a sequel series produced by an entirely different staff under the name Future Boy Conan II: Taiga Adventure ran from October 1999 to April 2000 with a total of 24 episodes.

The show follows an incredibly strong 11-year-old boy named Conan who was born after an apocalyptic event that destroyed most of the world’s continents, leaving vast oceans and overgrown islands in its wake. A young girl named Lana washes up on the beach of Conan’s rural island home desperate to avoid capture from soldiers who wish to know the location of her grandfather, Dr. Lao, a scientist who knows how to utilize solar power that could be used to power their machines of war. Conan then vows to protect Lana from harm no matter the cost, leading them both to embark on a vast journey across the remnants of the world, meeting a wide variety of friends and enemies along the way.
