Di Gi Charat is a Japanese franchise owned by Broccoli that was started by Koge-Donbo* around 1998. It centers on Di Gi Charat, commonly called Dejiko, who is an aspiring idol and the young princess of another planet (also called Di Gi Charat). Despite her cute appearance, she tends to be rude and selfish and sometimes blasts whoever annoys her with her eye beams. The character was originally just the mascot for the chain store Gamers, but her popularity caused Broccoli to release media and merchandise to capitalize.
