Beast Complex is the debut manga of Paru Itagaki and the originator for her work Beastars, which takes place in the same world. It is an anthology series set in a modern society of anthropomorphic animals. Carnivores and herbivores live together, but issues still arise because of the instincts and stereotypes different species have. Each chapter focuses on two animals going through a serious moment in their lives. The manga was printed into three volumes, but it was continued as one-shot chapters afterward.

Kameji finds that his bully Murou has hung himself in the classroom. Worried about being accused of murder, Kameji swallows the hyena in a panic, but he later spits Murou out upon realizing he is still alive.
