The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Sponge on the Run is an American computer animated film based on the Nicktoon television series, SpongeBob SquarePants created by Stephen Hillenburg. As the series' third feature length film, it was produced by Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies. The film was initially scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release in the summer of 2020, but was delayed until March 2021 and instead released on the Paramount+ streaming service.
The film's premise follows SpongeBob and Patrick journeying to the lost city of Atlantic City to rescue SpongeBob's beloved pet snail, Gary from the clutches of the tyrannically vain King Poseidon. Along the way, various characters remember the first time they met one another long ago at the summer camp, Camp Coral in their youth; paving the way for the series' new spin-off TV show, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years.
