Midori no Makibaō is a manga created by Tsunomaru, running from November 1994 to January 1998. There is also an anime adaptation with 61 episodes that first aired in March 1996. It follows the trials of a small, odd-looking horse given the name Tarezo Unko. Despite his physical traits, he has a talent for horse racing. He enters the races under the name Midori Makibaō and works hard to win, having two reasons in mind. One is to beat his rival and the best racehorse around, the Superhorse Cascade. The other is to bring home his mother Midoriko, who was taken away to pay debts for the ranch where he was born.
