Slappy gives off a pleased grin as a trio of lit birthday candles stick out of his mouth, comically emulating cigars. This is because Peter Lorre usually had an iconic cigar handy, during his performances and this is a great funny little way of making the character representation work, as well as not only slipping an adult joke past the radar, but also providing a parental bonus for all of the adults, watching this amazing special with their kids on such a historic day in Spongebob's history.
