The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Sponge on the Run is an American computer animated film based on the Nicktoon television series, SpongeBob SquarePants created by Stephen Hillenburg. As the series' third feature length film, it was produced by Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Movies. The film was initially scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release in the summer of 2020, but was delayed until March 2021 and instead released on the Paramount+ streaming service.
The film's premise follows SpongeBob and Patrick journeying to the lost city of Atlantic City to rescue SpongeBob's beloved pet snail, Gary from the clutches of the tyrannically vain King Poseidon. Along the way, various characters remember the first time they met one another long ago at the summer camp, Camp Coral in their youth; paving the way for the series' new spin-off TV show, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years.
In the film's first trailer showcasing SpongeBob at Camp Coral, he accidentally stumbles down a flight of stairs and into a puddle he immediately soaks up and squeezes back out.
In the film proper, SpongeBob soaks up and squirts out soap bubbles to clean the Krusty Krab at the end of the workday.
Later on, SpongeBob and Patrick are briefly seen gorging themselves on fried food while partying in Atlantic City.
Finally, in Sandy's flashback of Camp Coral, SpongeBob falls off the camp bus nearly identically to how he did in the footage from the trailer; accidentally landing into a puddle of water that he immediately soaks up.
