When the Simpsons go to Museum to see an Ancient Rome exhibit, Homer and Marge argue over his lack of ambition. The family are told a story of Obesus the Wide, a story set in Ancient Rome. Obesus starts off as a muscular young man, getting fatter over the years and becoming extremely obese, eventually unable to fit into his old armour due to his gargantuan size.

Homer accidentally destroys a Christmas decoration by overinflating it, sending it flying over the roof. After Marge asks him to take the kids to Santa's Village, he attempts to escape in the same way by using the pump to inflate himself, though is quickly caught in the act.
