The Secret of NIMH is an animated fantasy adventure film by critically acclaimed American director Don Bluth based on the 1971 children's novel Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. A widowed field mouse named Mrs. Brisby seeks to move her family before the local farmer plows his fields. Unfortunately, her youngest, Timothy, falls ill with pneumonia and must stay inside for at least three weeks or he risks dying. This sets Mrs. Brisby off on an arduous mission to save her family which puts her in the middle of a conflict between highly intelligent rats.

A direct-to-video sequel, The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue, was released in 1998 without input or support from Don Bluth. Similarly, the sequel film's plot is unrelated to the book sequel Racso and the Rats of NIMH. Instead, it focuses on a prophecy that states one of Mrs. Brisby's children will save their new home of Thorn Valley from NIMH.

Partway through the sequel, Timothy deals with a snake that has been harassing the village. He tricks it into eating a decoy mouse, inflating and sending it away like a balloon.
