Bamboo Blade is a manga series written by Masahiro Totsuka, running from 2004 to 2010. An anime adaptation premiered in 2007, and spinoff manga series were spawned after the original ended. Toraji "Kojiro" Ishida, a Kendo instructor for Muroe Private High School, is luckless and broke. His upperclassman Kenzaburo, a Kendo instructor at another school, makes a bet with him: if Kojiro's all-female team defeats his own, Kenzaburo will treat him to sushi for a year. Kojiro accepts and works to assemble team members, especially the prodigy Tamaki Kawazoe.
