I'm Hungry is a short picture book authored and illustrated by Jorge Martín, sometimes spelled as Martínez. The book shares some similarities to another dragon-related story by John Cunliffe, The Very Greedy Monster, and the Danish folktale, The Fat Cat. The similarities this book shares with both tales appear to be coincidental as it is not described as an adaption anywhere.
The story starts with a baby dragon hatching from her egg. She is left all alone and hungry when her mother steps out to pick up some groceries. Luckily, for her, a curious mouse with some cheese stumbles upon her just as she's hatching.
She soon leaves her cave in search of more food after eating the little mouse and passing on its cheese. It isn't long before she stumbles upon a crab who wants to play with her, but she still wanted to eat. So, the crab scuttled away as fast as it could before the baby dragon caught it. The same happened with the cockatoo who tried flying away only to learn that dragons can fly too. Still not full, she continues to rampage throughout the island growing with each creature she eats... save for one.
Baby dragon runs back to the beach scared and soon begins to cry out of loneliness. The mother dragon returns to the island to find out what her daughter has done and quickly thinks up a way to save everyone. Hoisting her daughter upside down, the mother dragon tickles her until all the animals are free from her stomach. As mother dragon begins preparing their real dinner she tells her daughter that they only eat roasted vegetables. She then waves her daughter away to apologize and make friends with everyone she ate.
