BoJack Horseman is an animated sitcom created by Raphael Bob-Waksburg, that debuted on Netflix on August 22, 2014 to mixed reception from critics, but throughout subsequent seasons has received universal critical acclaim for its satirical outlook on the American entertainment industry in the 2010's and its authentic portrayal of toxic masculinity, trauma and addiction.
The show takes place in a universe where animals are anthropomorphized, are accepted into society and are allowed natural human relationships with any species, and revolves around BoJack Horseman, a washed-up, middle-aged actor best known for the 1990's sitcom Horsin' Around, struggling to retain his relevance as a celebrity while wrestling with his egotism, alcoholism and self-destructive behavior. The series also focuses on the relationships and endeavours of Horseman's roommate Todd Chavez, ghostwriter Diane Nyugen, agent Princess Carolyn and longtime rival Mr. Peanutbutter.
