The 13½ Lives of Captain Bluebear is a 1999 German novel written by Walter Moers. It details the first 13 and a half lives from Captain Bluebear, who explores numerous places in the fictional continent of Zamonia.
In Life 4: Life on Gourmet Island, Captain Bluebear is stranded on an island which never runs out of food. He eats so much that he becomes fat, and then discovers the island is actually a living carnivorous plant who fattens people up and eats them. Bluebear is then saved by Deus X. "Mac" Machina, a pterodactyl who is a Roving Reptilian Rescuer.
