Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a live action-animation hybrid film directed by Robert Zemeckis (with animation directed by Richard Williams), released by Touchstone Pictures on June 22, 1988. Loosely adapted from Gary K. Wolf's Who Censored Roger Rabbit, it has been known to push the boundaries of the interaction of animation with live-action, as well as regain public interest in animation, and has proved an iconic success since its release, winning an Oscar among other awards.
It takes place in a reality where humans and animated characters, known as "toons", co-exist, in 1947, as a private detective formerly hired to solve mysteries involving toons investigates a murder that is blamed on cartoon star Roger Rabbit.
The opening sequence, taking place on the set of Somethin's Cookin', follows classic cartoon tropes, one of them being Roger being inflated by a "Suck-O-Lux".
