Gintama (also called Gin Tama) is a manga created by Hideaki Sorachi that first ran in 2003 in Weekly Shonen Jump, with an anime series produced in 2006. The manga continues to run. The anime series lasted until 2010, with follow-up series Gintama' airing from 2012 to 2013, Gintama° running from 2015 to 2016, and Gintama. running from 2017 to 2018.

It mainly focuses on Gintoki Sakata, a samurai working as a freelancer living in Edo during an alien conquer. He befriends a teenager named Shinpachi Shimura after helping him save his sister from these aliens, as well as an alien named Kagura whom they save from a group of Yakuza.
