The game did not do nearly as well as its predecessors due to a combination of uninspired enemy design, easy gameplay, and contradicting mechanics. For instance, foods had been common bonus items in many arcade games for years before the game was released. Despite this, all food in Diet Go Go hurt the player including healthy foods like sushi and salad. Despite the game sharing several assets with Tumblepop and other Data East titles, including the main antagonist, it is not considered a sequel.

Diet Go Go is a single-screen platformer by Data East back in 1992 following the success of their previous title, Tumblepop.

The story is fairly straightforward, a mad scientist is making the world's population fat to, presumably, make world domination easier. So, two diet instructors decide to stop the mad scientist's evil plans by giving him a taste of his own medicine. Like its contemporaries, Diet Go Go gameplay involves using enemies to clear the screen of other enemies. In this case, Players throw pallets at enemies to fatten them up until they're big and throwable. Players will also gain weight if they make contact with any food.

The game's intro and victory screens feature characters gaining weight. The credits also feature some unique animations of the boy character gaining weight.
